Kirsten Maynard

Kirsten heads Waxman’s Technology Practice helping the world’s most audacious innovators, companies, and investors introduce and scale environmental and public health technologies to benefit the public good, generate jobs, and create sustainable societal wealth. Originally from the Bay Area, in 2017 she moved to Washington, DC to support the technology ecosystem thrive in an increasingly complex and exciting political and policy landscape. Kirsten leads a team of global environmental and technology leaders working across a diverse set of issues and sectors.

Known for providing strategic business counsel and communications support that achieves market results for clients, Kirsten deploys a full suite of capabilities. From early start-ups to multi-billion-dollar companies, incubators, accelerators, and investors, she has led teams in support of environmental technologies, energy resilience, decarbonization, natural resources, ocean health, mobility and smart cities, as well as tech innovation and new models to improve public health outcomes. Kirsten specializes in developing powerful narratives, targeted messaging, and top-tier media coverage to build movements and create new market categories.

Prior to Waxman Strategies, Kirsten led the Venture Capital and Emerging Technologies practices at Spark and headed Consumer Technology accounts at Fleishman-Hillard International Communications. As a member of the executive leadership team within Sony Corporation of America, Kirsten managed cross-brand PR and marketing for the Sony family of brands. In these roles she amplified stories about technology in the public interest, managed crisis communications and served as spokesperson for global corporations, and deployed communications and media relations programs for startups, investors, foundations, NGOs and nonprofits.

Kirsten got her start as an environmental journalist, broadcast producer and technical director for Ziff Davis. She has a B.A. in Mass Media from the University of San Francisco.
