Madison West
Director
Madison West is a Director in the Health Practice at Waxman Strategies. Madison brings lived experience and policy expertise to her commitment to advancing health equity and addressing the social determinants of health.
She was most recently an Assistant Vice President at Venn Strategies, where she built bipartisan relationships across Congress and provided direct lobbying support for a portfolio of health care non-profit clients. Prior to her multi-client work, Madison led chronic disease prevention and tobacco cessation advocacy at Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), where she worked to align public health, nutrition, anti-hunger, and active transportation stakeholders to bolster CDC appropriations. She also served as a key public health partner to leaders at CDC, FDA, and HHS to advance nutrition and physical activity policies.
Madison was fortunate to begin her career on Capitol Hill, first on the Senate Special Committee on Aging under Ranking Member Casey’s leadership, and then in the personal office of Congresswoman Dina Titus.
A first-generation college student, Madison graduated magna cum laude with her BA in International Relations from the University of Denver, where her studies took her to Brazil to research community health worker programs. Madison speaks Spanish and conversational Portuguese.
In her free time, Madison enjoys traveling to warm water beaches, reading, and trying new restaurants.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Successfully advocated for the inclusion of CDC’s State Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) program as a policy recommendation in the report accompanying the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, then led a multi-sector coalition to secure increased SPAN funding in the President’s Budget Request.
Conducted bipartisan oversight of NIH’s Alzheimer’s disease research to strengthen inclusion of people with disabilities in clinical trials.
Secured report language to bolster CDC funding for social determinants of health planning grants.
