Etelle Higonnet, senior director at Waxman Strategies has been named a Chevalier of France’s Ordre national du Mérite (National Order of Merit) by French President Emmanuel Macron, recognizing her work to protect the environment.

“Etelle’s accomplishments – including transforming the cocoa industry and her pioneering legal work to drive major French and international companies to address serious human rights and environmental issues throughout their supply chains – are extraordinary,” said Waxman Strategies Chairman and former Congressman Henry Waxman, reacting to the announcement. “She is an inspiration to the team, a model for effective advocacy, and a truly wonderful person. I am so pleased that France has recognized her with this prestigious honor.”

Etelle works with Waxman Strategies and its partner organization Mighty Earth to drive the transformation of industries including cocoa, rubber, soy and more. Her efforts have made her a major figure in the fight to protect forests and address the climate crisis.
