Decarbonizing transportation and protecting our national security through electrification

The Electrification Coalition is a non-partisan, non-profit group representing the entire electric vehicle value chain with a focus on light, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and battery supply chain infrastructure. The Electrification Coalition, along with their sister organization, SAFE, are committed to promoting policies and actions that reduce our dependence on oil in the transportation sector and electrifying vehicles on a mass scale.

The Electrification Coalition works at the local, state, and federal level and partners with electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, EV charging networks, and EV charging infrastructure supply chain producers. They also work to deploy electric vehicles while reducing barriers to U.S. manufacturing and consumer adoption.

FOCUS

The United States transportation sector is heavily dependent on oil, making it the largest source of GHG emissions and a threat to public health. Our oil dependence has created significant economic and national security risks with nearly every recession over the past four decades preceding or occurring concurrently with an oil price spike. A mass adoption of EVs is a critical step toward decreasing our reliance on oil and decreasing emissions in the transportation sector. The federal government must take action to incentivize the deployment and adoption of electric vehicles, manufacturing, and EV workforce development.

IMPACT

Electric vehicles are the best alternative to reducing our dependence on oil in the transportation sector. Our power sector is capable of scaling electricity to meet the demands of electric vehicles, but we must ensure that there are adequate charging stations, including in rural and underserved areas. EVs are cheaper, cleaner, and more efficient than vehicles with internal combustion engines, and they will act as distributed storage devices for electricity, enabling consumers to get more out of renewable energy sources, and providing a buffer against fluctuating electricity demand and production. To achieve these goals, we advocate and work alongside Congress and federal agencies to ensure that EVs are incentivized at every step in their value chain from raw materials processing to manufacturing and consumer purchasing.
