Mark Hays is a Senior Director at Waxman Strategies, heading up efforts to protect climate critical forests in Southeast Asia by stopping deforestation and transforming the palm oil industry.
Previously, Mark was a Campaign Director at Global Witness, an international investigative advocacy organization that exposes the links between natural resources, corruption, and conflict. There he led global anti-money laundering campaigns that secured ground-breaking financial transparency victories, including legislation in the EU and the United Kingdom’s Overseas Territories that requires shell companies – often used in money laundering schemes – to reveal their true owners.
In previous roles, Hays has led advocacy, research, and campaigns for a wide range of organizations, including Oxfam America, The Sierra Club, Public Citizen, Greenpeace, NAACP, and others. His work has helped these organizations develop and implement bold and strategic campaigns that engage a wide variety of stakeholders in transformative environmental and social change efforts.
Hays is also past Board President and Board member of UPSTREAM, a non-profit advocacy organization that sparks innovative solutions to plastic pollution and is building a movement to “make throw away go away” through business innovation and culture change.
Mark graduated from Tufts University and the New England Conservatory of Music.
