Our Report on Drug Pricing Drivers and Solutions

Getting to the Root of High Prescription Drug Prices: Drivers and Potential Solutions, written by Waxman Strategies’ Henry Waxman, Bill Corr, Kristi Martin and Sophia Duong, was published today by the Commonwealth Fund. The report identifies the problems and drivers of high prescription drug prices as well as the many actions that can be taken to address them.

U.S. prescription drug pricing over the past decade reflects a distortion of the policies enacted by Congress to balance innovation and price competition and to enable access to affordable medicine. While there is widespread public support for policymakers to take action on high prescription drugs, there has not been consensus on the root causes.

Waxman Strategies believes that by coming to an agreement on the problems that need to be addressed, policymakers and stakeholders can find a path to bipartisan solutions. The new report serves as a means of fostering discussion and consensus among policymakers and stakeholders by highlighting 10 major problems that help cause high U.S. prescription drug prices.
