Celebrating Climate Week: Waxman Strategies Hosts Reception In NYC

This week, many of us here at Waxman Strategies packed our bags and temporarily relocated to New York City, where we were thrilled to host a reception as an official part of Climate Week NYC. The event, an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and conversation, was held at Candle 79, an upscale restaurant with a plant-based menu.

After a few rounds of specialty drinks and vegan snacks, the capacity crowd heard remarks from Chairman Henry Waxman and Managing Directors Kirsten Maynard and Glenn Hurowitz. Together with friends, partners, and industry leaders, our team discussed the importance of transitioning major industries – from agriculture to AI – toward sustainability to help address the climate crisis.

Despite the seriousness of the topic, a good time was had by all. A special thanks to everyone who attended! And if you couldn’t make it this time, be sure to sign up for our mailing list so you’ll hear about the next one.

Elsewhere in New York City, a protest against corporate inaction was organized by Mighty Earth, the non-profit global environmental organization we helped launch and continue to support. Mighty Earth joined dozens of NGOs in asking members of the Consumer Goods Forum “to take bold and urgent action to halt deforestation, species loss, and human rights abuses within supply chains.” Activists from several organizations gathered outside a meeting of the Consumer Goods Forum to hold a “vigil for the Amazon” and demand that member companies immediately cut all ties to deforestation.

How do we know the protest successfully got their attention? The CGF organizers actually invited our colleague Etelle Higonnet inside to articulate Mighty Earth’s concerns and speak directly to top executives.

At Waxman Strategies, we are committed to ensuring a livable and healthy planet for all. We continue to pursue outcomes that matter by supporting green tech and pressuring governments and private companies to adopt policies that promote sustainability rather than environmental destruction – a mission that will continue long after Climate Week comes to an end.
