Waxman Strategies, a progressive-minded public affairs firm led by former Congressman Henry Waxman, is pleased to announce the addition of Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) veterans Bill Corr and Kristi Martin to our team.
“Bill’s one of the most well-respected and experienced health policy advocates in the country. His track record of crafting, passing and implementing some of our nation’s most impactful health legislation and regulations makes him an invaluable asset to our team,” stated Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of Waxman. “I know Bill and Kristi are joining the firm because they are committed, like us, to quality, affordable and accessible health care for all.”
Collectively, Henry Waxman and Bill Corr have been at the forefront in advancing and adopting the Affordable Care Act, Hatch-Waxman Act, Orphan Drug Act, Ryan White CARE Act, Medicaid and CHIP expansions, Nursing Home reforms and other landmark legislation.
“We’re building a team that knows the intricacies of Congress and the Executive Branch, knows the instincts of key players and constituencies, and understands what it takes to adopt and implement meaningful policy change,” said Michael Waxman, CEO of Waxman.
Bill Corr comes to Waxman with decades of experience in health policy work, most recently as Deputy Secretary of HHS. Bill has also served as executive director of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, chief counsel and policy director for U.S. Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, chief of staff at the HHS for Secretary Donna E. Shalala and counsel to the Subcommittee on Health and the Environment of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce under Chairmen Paul Rogers and Henry A. Waxman.
Kristi Martin has left her post as a Senior Advisor in the Office of Health Reform at HHS to serve as Vice President at Waxman. While at HHS, Kristi was responsible for the public health and prevention policy portfolio of the Affordable Care Act, along with supporting interdepartmental initiatives like the rising cost of drugs and women’s health issues.
Waxman’s health care clients include the National Association of Community Health Centers, 340B Health, the California Association of Public Hospitals and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.
